Pixelmon Ends Game Development and Gives Gaming Team Notice on September 14, 2026

Web3 gaming company Pixelmon has ended all game development and given notice to its gaming team after a three-week test led by external publishers failed to generate results strong enough to secure a long-term commercial offer. The company announced the decision on September 14, 2026.

Pixelmon did not disclose the number of affected employees or the percentage of its workforce impacted. It said members of the gaming team received severance and other applicable benefits based on legal requirements in their respective jurisdictions. Employees will serve their notice periods on “garden leave” after the games are taken offline and related systems are dismantled.

The publisher-led test used external marketing budgets and tools to assess player acquisition and retention. Pixelmon said the publishers did not reject its games outright, but the results were not strong enough to support a longer-term offer. The publishers asked the company to further polish the games and conduct another test within several weeks.

Pixelmon’s leadership decided not to continue with another test, citing more than two years of similar results. “We think we have been in this ‘not too bad but not good enough’ territory now for over 2 years,” the company said in its official Discord announcement. Pixelmon added that it had previously agreed internally that the publisher exercise would be the final test.

A smaller group of senior and multidisciplinary employees will remain to explore non-gaming business models. Pixelmon said further details would be shared at a Thursday town hall. The company also said refunds are not an option because of its corporate and shareholder structure. Its remaining funds will be used to pursue a viable business model, or the company will close.
