StarkWare Announces Layoffs Amid Restructuring on April 13, 2026

StarkWare, the company behind the Ethereum Layer 2 solution Starknet, has announced layoffs as part of a significant restructuring effort aimed at pivoting towards revenue-generating products. The announcement was made by CEO Eli Ben-Sasson on April 13, 2026. While the exact number of jobs cut and the percentage of the workforce affected were not disclosed, the company is reorganizing into two distinct business units.

The restructuring comes in response to a dramatic decline in Starknet’s revenue, which has reportedly fallen over 98% from its peak of approximately $5.8 million in November 2023 to an estimated $100,000 this month. This sharp drop has prompted StarkWare to reassess its operational strategy. Ben-Sasson stated, β€œOur new strategy requires that we move fast, and we’re too big and too inefficient for that.” The CEO emphasized the need for a more agile structure to better align with the company’s goals.

StarkWare, founded in 2018, has been a key player in the blockchain space, developing Starknet, which utilizes zero-knowledge rollups to enhance Ethereum's scalability. The company had previously raised over $260 million, reaching an $8 billion valuation in May 2022. However, the recent revenue collapse has raised concerns about its financial health and market position.

As part of the restructuring, StarkWare will create two divisions: one focused on applications and revenue generation, led by Chief Product Officer Avihu Levy, and another dedicated to Starknet development, overseen by Product Head Tom Brand. This strategic shift aims to streamline operations and enhance the company's ability to deliver commercially successful products based on its technology stack.

The future of StarkWare will depend on how effectively it can adapt to its new structure and regain market traction in the competitive blockchain landscape.
