I’m currently a full-time freelance writer/editor/translator, helping a number of different Chinese blockchain companies improve their international image through written content.
This current work-lifestyle choice has really just fallen into my lap whilst I have pursued different passions and interests. I have been in China for nearly 8 years, speak fluent Mandarin, am interested in all things web3, have always loved writing, and am completely driven to do something different from other people.
Also, I’m extremely disciplined with my time which allows for a lot of flexibility and the opportunity to take on new projects whenever they arise. So far, all of these things have combined together to support my developing career, but there are always things that could be improved.
Perhaps the biggest sacrifice in pursuing this type of work lifestyle is that I rarely have much of an opportunity to work in a team. Previously, teamwork was something I really enjoyed and tried to engage in as much as possible, but freelancing is quite a solo journey.
I believe that taking on something more permanent would allow me to connect with more team members on a deeper level, meaningfully contribute to the development of the company as a whole, and provide a sense of ownership and purpose that can be difficult to find on your own.
