Software Engineer, Cryptography

Matonee Inc. d/b/a Aptos Labs has an opening for a Software Engineer, Cryptography in Palo Alto, CA.

The position duties are as follows:  Responsible for designing core cryptography modules, primarily using Rust, that supports a blockchain and its ecosystem of systems. Daily job duties include:

• Using extensive experience to build, test, debug, and deploy software modules that either provide or integrate cryptographic functionality;
• Working with digital signatures and authenticated data structures to complete complex engineering challenges such as scaling up the performance, securing the blockchain, and reducing transaction latency;
• Developing and maintaining high-quality software engineering practices and principles in a highly visible, open-source project;
• Writing detailed unit, integration, security, and pre-production tests to ensure high reliability of the production environment;
• Guiding and onboarding new developers into the ecosystem.

The position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a related field or foreign equivalent, plus 3 years of experience as a software engineer or in an equivalent role.  Experience must include:

1. 3 years of professional or academic experience in cryptography with exposure to digital signatures and authenticated data structures; 
2. 3 years of experience in at least one of the following fields: maintaining large-scale production systems; test automation; infrastructure monitoring;
3. 3 years of experience conducting code reviews with a focus on software architecture; and
4. 3 years of experience with programming languages including at least one of the following: C++; Java; Rust; Scala; Go; or C#. 

In lieu of a Bachelor's Degree plus 3 years of experience, the employer will accept a Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a related field or foreign equivalent, plus 1 year of experience as a software engineer or in an equivalent role. Experience must include:

1. 1 year of professional or academic experience in cryptography with exposure to digital signatures and authenticated data structures; 
2. 1 year of experience in at least one of the following fields: maintaining large-scale production systems; test automation; infrastructure monitoring;
3. 1 year of experience conducting code reviews with a focus on software architecture; and
4. 1 year of experience with programming languages including at least one of the following: C++; Java; Rust; Scala; Go; or C#. 

Role permits full-time telecommuting. Must be available during normal business hours U.S. Pacific Time. Must be willing to travel to HQ in Palo Alto, CA approximately 2-4 times per year for 3-6 days for onsite meetings and visits. Incidental domestic and/or international travel for conferences required. Compensation range: $204,341 - $220,000 per year.
