Head of People

Optimism Unlimited is looking for a Head of People to drive the success of the organization through its people. You’ll be responsible for hiring and empowering a team of Optimists across the world to do their best work. In addition to HR & People responsibilities for the employees of Optimism Unlimited, this role will also play a key role in shaping culture, compensation, and engagement across the broader Optimism Collective, bringing People experience to the broader community of contributors core to the success of Optimism. This role reports to the General Manager and will also work closely with OP Labs.

What are the role responsibilities?

  • Work with leadership to create hiring long term strategies and short-term plans that support the organization and its goals.
  • Design and implement performance management systems to drive continuous improvement and accountability.
  • Develop talent by providing coaching and support to managers on performance feedback, goal setting, and career development.
  • Work with leadership to design an effective organization, taking in to account Optimism’s unique corporate and collective structure.
  • Collaborate with recruiting team at OP Labs to execute on Unlimited/Foundation hiring plans.
  • Support Governance and Community teams in building culture across the broader Collective, including external contributors and core development teams.
  • Develop and implement initiatives to enhance employee satisfaction, well-being, and retention.
  • Oversee the design and administration of competitive compensation and benefits programs across Optimism and Unlimited and the broader Collective.
  • Manage relationships with benefits vendors and negotiate contracts to optimize value for employees and the company.

What skills do you bring?

  • Experience leading a People or HR function in a startup environment
  • Understanding of employment laws and regulations
  • Experience designing and implementing performance management systems
  • Knowledge and experience overseeing competitive compensation and benefits programs including conducting benchmarking and analysis to ensure alignment with industry standards
  • Able to work in a flexible manner across time zones and business teams
  • Experience in web3 is a plus but not required (you should have interest in web3!)
  • Must be located outside of the US
