Bitstamp, established in 2011, is one of the longest-standing cryptocurrency exchanges, offering a secure platform for trading various digital assets. Headquartered in Luxembourg, the company provides services to over four million customers worldwide, facilitating the exchange of fiat currencies such as USD, EUR, and GBP with cryptocurrencies including Bitcoin, Ethereum, and others. Bitstamp emphasizes regulatory compliance, holding more than 50 active licenses and registrations globally, which enables it to operate across the European Union, United Kingdom, United States, and Asia. In June 2024, Robinhood Markets Inc. announced the acquisition of Bitstamp for approximately $200 million, marking Robinhood's entry into the institutional crypto business. This acquisition is expected to enhance Robinhood's global cryptocurrency expansion and provide institutional customers with access to Bitstamp's established infrastructure.
