Square started off as a pet project from Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey in 2013. Peer-to-peer payments in the US were still cumbersome at the time, and Dorsey wanted to solve it. Square's Cash app took off very quickly and became a standard for instant payments.
Apart from Twitter and Square, Dorsey had another interest: Bitcoin and Crypto. In January 2018, the app allowed its millions of users to buy and sell Bitcoin instantly. They even went further by putting 1% of their total assets into Bitcoin in 2020.
Jack Dorsey is very ambitious in bringing Square Crypto and Blockchain innovation. Cash wants to make payments universally accessible, and its transition towards Bitcoin is just the first step in that process.
Today, Cash App has thousands of employees working globally across office and remote locations, with a culture geared toward creativity, collaboration and impact. Since day one, they've been a distributed team and have offices and remote teammates across the globe. Many of the roles can be done remotely from the countries where Cash App operates.
