Coinbase is one of the oldest and largest crypto exchanges, and Coinbase Jobs are one of the most coveted in the industry. Founded in 2012, Coinbase is now a crypto heavyweight with over 68 million verified users and 1,250 employees. Coinbase even went public in 2021 on Nasdaq via a direct listing.

Coinbase was launched by Brian Armstrong and Fred Ehrsam. It is based in San Francisco, California. However, the exchange now has offices spread across multiple cities in US, Europe, and Asia. Coinbase brought in a revenue of $2.23 Billion in Q2 2020, and at the peak of its share price, its valuation exceeded $100 Billion.

Coinbase does not advertise a lot of internship opportunities. However, they do come from time to time.

To strengthen our growing Enterprise Applications team, we are looking for an experienced Staff Enterprise Architect, passionate about transforming technology into critical business value. The architect will synthesize business objectives into key technology decisions and partner with business functions/units and engineering teams to buy, build, launch, and scale platforms with a focus on design patterns, technical debt, automation, and master data. This role reports to the Sr. Director Enterprise Architecture.

What you’ll be doing (ie. job duties):

  • Provide leadership, analysis, and design expertise for the development, maintenance, and governance of enterprise architecture models, standards, and design patterns to ensure reliability and scalability of the application ecosystem. 
  • Develop technical roadmaps to evolve the application ecosystem from current to future states, in support of strategic and business capability goals and policies.
  • Drive application portfolio health programs with focus on avoiding, identifying, mitigating, and where prudent, eliminating technical debt.
  • Evaluate new applications and platforms to ensure respective business, application, data, solution and technology perspectives are in line with the organization’s technology and governance strategies, policies, and standards.
  • Develop and maintain system diagrams, highlighting the relationship between business value, capabilities and technology by creating logical, business, integration and functional architecture artifacts for review by engineering teams and security
  • Contribute to a Community of Practice for architects and engineers to collaborate, debate, and educate technical teams on acceptable design patterns and solutions.
  • Develop and promote modern architectural approaches that encourage value exchange with partners and customers, digitization of processes, business connectivity, and partner collaboration.
  • Lead analysis and evaluation of leading and emerging technology and market trends to determine their impact and opportunities for the enterprise architecture with focus on Digital capabilities and innovations to enable business strategy.
  • Work closely with solution architects, providing frameworks, guidelines and best practices for implementing and configuring applications and database technologies.
  • Contribute to large-scale, enterprise-wide transformation initiatives, from current state assessments through technical oversight alongside the delivery teams.
  • Improve Enterprise Architecture maturity in non-functional requirements and security review processes by providing actionable feedback to the organization
  • Improve application portfolio health and address technical debt, working with application delivery teams to ensure backlogs include technical debt work items

What we look for in you (ie. job requirements):

  • A minimum of five (5) years working in Enterprise Architecture, collaborating with domain, data, security, and/or solution architects.
    • Creating and publishing Enterprise Architecture design patterns and standards
    • Driving technical debt and project/solution review programs
  • Delivering OKRs with broad architectural impact
  • Working as part of a high-performing team and providing constructive feedback
  • Handling escalations, communicating trade-offs, driving decisions to resolution.
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively across the spectrum of stakeholders, including senior business executives, business SMEs, peer EAA leadership, and technical delivery teams.

Preferred Experience:

  • Passion for the crypto/blockchain/NFT industry and economy.
    • Experience with Salesfore.com, NetSuite, Anaplan, Workday, Coupa, Contentful and/or equivalent enterprise platforms.
  • Experience designing/improving performance of high-load customer service platforms.
  • Creating quantitatively based architecture risk-models (i.e., measuring technical debt and other trade-off decisions by risk factors).
  • Knowledge of other agile and non-agile SDLC approaches.
  • Familiarity with JS/TS and related frameworks.
  • Experience with SQL and Snowflake.
  • Deep knowledge of SFDC architecture and customization approaches.
  • Experience managing multi-org Salesforce.com architecture.
  • M&A integration, including transitional and long-term architectures.
  • Experience with at least one systems-level programming language (Go preferred).
  • Proficiency with Git, Confluence, Jira, LeanIX.
