Abacus Works, founded in 2022 and based in New York, is the core development team behind Hyperlane, an open-source interoperability framework designed to facilitate seamless communication between diverse blockchain networks. Hyperlane enables developers to build interchain decentralized applications by providing a generalized cross-chain messaging protocol, allowing applications to share state across multiple blockchains. This framework supports various virtual machine environments, including EVM, Solana, and Cosmos, thereby promoting modular and permissionless interoperability. In October 2022, Abacus Works secured $18.5 million in seed funding led by Variant, with participation from investors such as Galaxy Ventures and Circle Ventures. The company rebranded from Abacus to Hyperlane in the same year, reflecting its commitment to advancing blockchain interoperability.
