Crypto Research Analyst (Hedge Fund)

About the Role

In tradfi, new markets with new rules don’t spring up and disappear within months.  Mispriced opportunities vanish in seconds.

The rules of the game aren’t buried in documentation that was freshly written by an anonymous intern, and then changed overnight with a tweet.

We find alpha by:

1.  Being the early mover on new protocols and chains.

2.  Analyzing news flow

3.  Poring through overlooked documentation

4.  Executing quickly

That’s where you come in.

We need to move quickly to understand a system and look for opportunities. You will build relative valuation models of tokens that haven’t launched yet, dig through documentation and discord to validate assumptions, reverse engineer whale wallets to find new trade ideas, and you’ll have your finger on the pulse of crypto twitter.

But you’ll also be hands-on, using new protocols and moving crypto around. The best way to learn a system is to use it!

This role will be hybrid remote/in-person. Will require in-office presence in Hong Kong for training (4-6 months), with an option for remote work after ( will require at least 6 hours of timezone overlap)

If you’re currently based outside of Hong Kong and decide to relocate, we’ll provide a full relocation stipend and assist with your visa application.

Here’s what you’ll be doing:

You’ll work directly with our head of trading to:

• Build models to compare and track the relative value of crypto tokens, yield farming opportunities, and much more.
• Conduct deep-dive research on the economics of new protocols, incentive programs, tokens etc.
• Dig into documentation and discord chats to validate assumptions and track down info needed to validate a trade idea
• Track and reverse engineer wallets to generate trade ideas
• Daily tracking of twitter and discord to find data that requires updating our models or thesis
• Keep up-to-date with evolving themes, protocols, and narratives in crypto
• Work with devs to scrape data (bonus if you’ve done scraping before or can leverage chatGPT)
• Simple data queries using SQL, or, Python
• Create and maintain dashboards to accurately track portfolio positions, risk, nav etc
• Work with content marketing team to package our best ideas into trust-building twitter threads/linkedin posts and other media used to grow our brand
• Move crypto from wallets into various pools and staking positions
• Roll up your sleeves and do whatever it takes – our head of trading put together a team of offshore virtual assistants over a weekend to play a game for 2 weeks to farm fictional gold. This “trade” generated X return in X weeks.

Here’s what we’re looking for:

You are:

• Able to swiftly comprehend complex topics and work independently in a fast-paced environment
• Extremely detail-oriented
• Data-driven: able to source and aggregate data and information from a variety of sources to inform a point of view
• Hungry to learn, which you actively fulfill through self-learning and asking questions)
• Deeply crypto-native and curious; always interested in exploring the newest frontiers of crypto
• Passionate about DeFi and have experience using various dApps
• Familiar with smart contracts and how to use various wallets and block explorers
• A spreadsheet wizard
• Fast paced and high tempo

You have: 

• 2+ years of experience, preferably as a research analyst in crypto, TradFi, or consulting. But also open to unconventional technical backgrounds (data science, math, physics etc)
• Experience buying/selling crypto currencies, using crypto wallets etc.
• A strong foundational understanding of finance
• Strong research ability
• Basic low-code tech ability

Nice to have

• Capable of working with data using SQL , Python, R or other scripting language.
• Basic low-code tech ability – e.g. experiencing using SQL or R to query data, chatGPT to scrape webpages etc.
